Convicted serial rapist and killer Jaishankar was arrested Friday from the outskirts of the Karnataka capital six days after he escaped from the central jail in a southern suburb, a top police official said.
"Jaishankar was found at Kudlugate in Bommanhalli, about 25 km south of the city, by our patrolling party after a tip-off, and has been arrested," Bangalore Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar told reporters here.
The 36-year-old prisoner will be brought to the commissioner's office by evening for interrogation and further investigation.
"We will question him on how he escaped from the high-walled prison and find out if he had any accomplices who helped him in securing a duplicate key and police uniform in which he scaled two inner walls and jumped from the outer wall," Auradkar said.
An embarrassed Karnataka government had Monday announced a Rs.5-lakh reward for information that would help trace the runaway convict.
